a matcha a day keeps the doctor away
This is the third time all my boys have been sick, and I’ve “caught” nothing. The reason I put it in quotations is because I think that contagious sickness is more than just being exposed to something.
Here’s terrain theory in lamen’s terms (this theory is what blood analysis is based on)
Terrain theory is the idea that your body’s internal environment matters just as much—if not more—than the germs you’re exposed to. When your “terrain” (things like gut health, nutrient status, detox pathways, stress levels, and sleep) is strong and diverse, your body can handle stressors and microbes without getting sick. Think of a garden. Good microbes. Sunshine. Water. Etc. When the terrain is inflamed, depleted, imbalanced or overloaded, the same exposures are more likely to tip you into symptoms. It’s less about fighting germs and more about creating an internal environment where illness struggles to take hold.
Make sense?
So I’ve been thinking… in a sleep deprived season where I know I’m depleted and rebuilding, how am I still not getting sick? I take oregano here and there, but nothing to religiously. Except… MATCHA! I have 1-2 cups of matcha per day, and it got me curious about how this may be supporting my immune system.
Here’s what’s worth sharing:
ECGC (not ACDC but similar vibe:)
Ceremonial‑grade matcha (this part is important) is packed with concentrated antioxidants like EGCG, which help neutralize oxidative stress and support balanced inflammation — key for immune resilience and cellular health. EGCG (aka Epigallocatechin Gallate) is a type of catechin, which is a powerful antioxidant found in green tea — especially ceremonial-grade matcha, since you’re consuming the whole leaf. Move over green teas bags. Matcha’s catechins also act as a prebiotic source, helping promote beneficial gut bacteria and a healthier microbiome, which is (in my opinion) the BIGGEST pillar of immune system health.
Chlorophyllllllll
Matcha is also a phenom source of chlorophyll. This super greem acts as a natural detoxifier that binds to toxins and heavy metals, supporting your liver’s ability to clear them and promoting a cleaner internal environment. More toxins? More congested immune system.
Clean-er Caffeine
It’s caffeine content can help you feel energized and make better choices that lead to a healthier immune system (like getting outside, like exercise, like remembering to drink water, like jumping in a sauna, etc) which is a win. Unlike coffee’s quick spike and crash, matcha’s L‑theanine and caffeine combo supports calm, sustained energy and stress modulation, helping you feel focused without overloading your nervous system or gut (or crashing!!!)
So maybe join me getting on the matcha train!
Follow me on IG for more matcha content. I’m usually sipping one :)
